Little Village - BIG Cause
Each year with the Snowflake House Christmas lights we have tried to raise awareness and money for some really special causes. This year we are raising money for some much needed improvements around the school in our community. If you can chip in a few bucks, it will go a long way. Here’s the story:
Kingston in Somerset County NJ has many children that live here. Nearly 100 others come to our village to attend our school.
After seeing several accidents and reckless drivers, the children petitioned local authorities and collected over 2000 signatures asking for help to make the School Zone safe
The result of the petition has been a lot of attention around the problem , but unfortunately the township doesn’t have a budget to pay for the much needed radar speed warning signs to keep our children safe. The signs do NOT collect data - they just warn distracted drivers they are exceeding a limit where our children are walking and playing. Our school has children in-person, so signs can’t wait. Statistics show that radar speed signs are very effective:
- Speeders will slow down up to 80% of the time when alerted by a radar sign
- Typical speed reductions are 10-20%
- Overall compliance with the posted speed limit will go up by 30-60%
- Radar speed signs are particularly effective at getting "super speeders' - those driving over 20 mph or more over - to slow down
We were told that if we could raise the money for the signs, they would install them. So, we’re asking for your help.
Each sign will cost us $4000 .
Donations will go directly toward 2 speed radar signs then other safety improvements around our school and community.
